The two most important things in my life, relationships and my art, are combined in my work. I began painting portraits in a traditional style, and magic happened when I seemed to connect with my animal and human subjects, even from a photo. That resulted in my reputation for capturing the essence or spirit of people and pets in my work. I was thrilled that my clients laughed and cried with joy and delight at these results.
My traditional colored pencil work was inspired by Canadian artist Bernard Poulin, After awhile I expanded into a freer, bolder style and was led to study works of the French impressionists and German expressionists. Fast-drying acrylics with their bold color enable me to paint with the energy and passion that this contemporary style inspired.
My commissions don’t require sittings; I use photographs for facial likeness. After getting to know my subjects, I can portray them in realistic or fantasy surroundings, depending on personalities
